If you’re reading this, I think it’s safe to say you’ve enjoyed several trips around the sun on this planet.
So I’m going to make what I’d consider a pretty safe prediction – you’ve had times in your life where you’ve thought everything’s going along swimmingly and then….. BAM.
There it is. The curve ball. The one that comes out of left field and changes your world.
Perhaps you’ve had a series of curve balls in quick succession. That really tests the mettle.
The deviation of the curve ball can be a little or a lot.
It seems appropriate to talk about curve balls at this time of year for it’s naturally a time of endings and beginnings.
A curve ball will always necessitate change, for better or for worse.
In the moment it can be hard to tell which. This is bad unless it isn’t.
Because we can only connect the dots going backwards, it makes sense to choose beliefs in the moment that are going to support us rather than debilitate us as we navigate a new path ahead.
The quality of our beliefs will create the future we subsequently experience.
Sometimes those choices are moment by moment if the curve ball’s a big one.
A day can be a long time between drinks in times of stress.
What it can do is cause us to dig deep. To question who we are and what we value.
It allows us an important opportunity to either re-commit or change. Both choices are valid.
Only we know the most powerful choice for us. It’s my belief that the powerful choice is the one worth making.
An option the curve ball doesn’t provide is to maintain the status quo.
It shatters the illusion we can often live under that life’s meant to be lived in a straight line.
There’s no growth in straight.
